Campaigning for South Dorset

WHAT´S HAPPENING

1.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 11th May 2010

First of all - a huge than-you to all of you who supported me on Thursday. We did not expect quite the Conservative surge that occurred across the whole of Dorset. In fact we were the only seat to increase our share of the vote in the county.

But what would have happened under a fair voting system ?

Over the last few days I´ve been inundated with requests about what is happening with the Lib/Con, Lib/Lab discussions. Many of you have really strong opinions over which way we should go.

The most important thing is to enable a strong government that will steady the finances of the country. But as I said in my speech on election night, also to deliver parliamentary reform.

Negotiations are always difficult and we in the UK are not used to them- although they are par for the course in countries like Germany. I want to ask people to trust in the process - at the worst we will see a levelling off of the extreme policies of the other parties, at best we will be able to change politics in this country for ever.

Be patient -it´s worth waiting for !
