Young People Back Lib Dems

2.39.32pm GMT Wed 2nd Feb 2005

Graham Oakes has welcomed the latest polling results amongst students that show the Lib Dems in the lead.

"In the past we have not enjoyed widespread support amongst students, but now more students are planning to vote Lib Dem than for either of the other parties."

31% backed the Lib Dems, 28% Labour and just 16% the Conservatives!

This is particularly bad news for the Tories whose vote has dropped by 7% over the past year.

"Coming on the back of excellent local government results in 2004 this is a big boost for us in South Dorset" said Graham Oakes.

"The Tories claim to be the only challenger in South Dorset to Labour is getting harder to believe as their support falls away."

The poll was carried out for the Times Higher Education Supplement by Opinionpanel Research.
